New York Fashion Week: The Era of Bold Details and Glamour
New York Fashion Week (NYFW) has always been a showcase for creativity, and this season was no exception. Designers took more risks than in past seasons, embracing opulence, texture, and drama. The runways were filled with captivating details, from the return of tweed to shimmering metallics and exaggerated silhouettes. This season’s color palette was dominated by dark chocolate, navy, and black, with pops of vibrant color appearing throughout. While some brands like Calvin Klein maintained a minimalist aesthetic, others like Thom Browne took BIG fashion chances. Recall Thom Browne’s recent accolades with the Doechii’s dresses at the 2025 Grammy Awards that set the stage for Thom Browne’s runway show. What didn’t we see on the runways? Animal prints were all but extinct for fall/winter of 25/26. What should we keep? Belts! on everything from handbags to outerwear.
Tweed + Fringe = Modern
Tweed made a strong comeback on pretty much every runway, proving that this classic fabric isn’t just for traditional looks. Designers reimagined it with contemporary cuts, unexpected colorways, and frayed edges. Prabal Gurung led the charge with metallic-threaded tweeds and incorporated fringe into his tweed pieces, adding movement and a fresh edge to the fabric. Tory Burch also made a statement, incorporating rich chocolate brown tweeds adorned with sequins and sparkle, adding a luxurious yet unexpected twist to the classic material. Fringe, too, was everywhere, adding movement and flair to garments across the board. From subtle fringe trims on sleeves to dramatic floor-length strands swaying with every step, designers used this detail to create energy and dynamism. Oscar de la Renta took fringe to new heights, incorporating long, dramatic silk strands into eveningwear, creating ethereal and elegant movement on the runway.

Sequins and Sparkles
If there was one overarching theme at NYFW, it was the unapologetic embrace of shininess. Sequins, crystals, and shimmering embellishments adorned everything from body-hugging gowns at Oscar de la Renta to casual streetwear at Tory Burch.

Leather Luxe
Leather has always been a staple in fashion, but this season saw it take on new forms. Whether it was structured leather coats like at Michael Kors, or baggy leather trousers like at Sergio Hudson, designers showed that leather is more versatile than ever. Not surprisingly, Khaite incorporated strong leather pieces into almost every look, in car coats, motorcycle-inspired jackets, and strong leather opera gloves.

Shiny and Metallic Marvels
High-shine metallics dominated the runways, reflecting a futuristic yet glamorous approach to fashion. Silver, gold, and iridescent fabrics were used in everything from oversized trenches to sculpted mini-dresses at Christian Siriano. Oscar de la Renta showcased a gorgeous gold grouping of coats and dresses constructed from tiny gold leaves. Tory Burch shined in almost every look.

Exaggerated Silhouettes: Go Big or Go Home
One of the most striking trends this season was the emphasis on oversized, exaggerated silhouettes. Think larger-than-life puffed sleeves at Khaite, voluminous skirts at Christian Siriano, and pants at Prabal Gurung. Designers played with proportions, creating avant-garde pieces for those not afraid to take a fashion risk.

The Verdict: More is More
If NYFW taught us anything this season, it’s that maximalism is back. Details like fringe, sequins, leather, metallics, and exaggerated proportions aren’t just trends—they’re statements. Fashion is embracing boldness, creativity, and fun in a celebratory and empowering way.
So, this season is all about making a statement, whether incorporating a touch of sparkle into your wardrobe or going full-throttle with an exaggerated silhouette. And in the words of the fashion greats, more is definitely more!
